About William Oakes

William Oakes grew up in a small town in Central Indiana, the son of a plumber and a devoted housewife. While completing his degree at Purdue University, he married his high school sweetheart, Fran. Together, they raised three sons and now enjoy life with three daughters-in-law and seven grandchildren.

William spent a decade in journalism, beginning as a broadcast reporter and later working as a newspaper reporter and political columnist. During that time, he participated in investigative reporting projects and covered crime, courts, government, and politics at both the local and state levels. His later work in public relations and marketing further broadened his perspective. After retiring, William returned to his lifelong passion for journalism and creative writing, channeling his experience into fiction. Chasing Evil is his debut novel, and, he insists, only the beginning.

What Kept The Readers Hooked?

Readers stay hooked because Chasing Evil refuses to offer easy answers. It is a continuously tension-building story, where the secrets are revealed gradually, and the readers get sucked in with each new chapter.

What really sinks in on the viewer is the emotional verity of the investigation- the crimes are not remote or abstract but very much connected to family, memory and incomplete grieving. The changing timelines maintain the suspense as they relate the former violence to the current threat in disturbing ways.

The readers are attracted to the reality of the police work, the emotional cost that is paid by people who want to see justice and the chilling view that a predator does not go away. Every finding is an upgrading of the antecedent, generating a great sense of urgency.
